HK's Police Chief A senior police officer recently gave a press interview and provided an explanation why pepper spray was utilised so strongly against the public. The reason?
The people were dressed and prepared for it.
No they weren't. I'm trying to be objective here - I know the police have a job to do, that they have to protect the government and prevent the spread of chaos all in the interest of safety and security. But I'm sorry, that has to be the biggest load of horses**t that I've heard in a long time. These people were not prepared - cling film and disposable anoraks were only handed out after the police began using pepper spray offensively. Masks were only provided once tear gas grenades were flung towards the people. It was all rudimentary, nothing was prepared. Heck, this entire movement wasn't prepared. In fact, it was due to the aggressive use of pepper spray and tear gas that more people were prompted to join the fray, as they saw the injustice in the acts of the police.
Also, last night circa 1AM, an impatient man rammed his Mercedes into peacefully protesting crowds Mong Kok. Luckily, no major injuries were sustained and he is currently being charged with dangerous driving, although I personally believe that the charge should be stiffer.

Damn that's messed up...
Anxious to see what the October 1 deadline brings. PRC has quelled so many of these they must be getting good at it, but Hong Kong is probably their biggest challenge yet. The fact that no one is going to come to Hong Kong's aid, no matter how ruthlessly these protests are going to be crushed in the next few months is what really makes me ill. China is so important to everyone's economy that few heads of state are even going to verbally support the protesters, much less bring actual threat of force or sanctions against PRC.
I'm genuinely sorry y'all are having to go through this. Even if our government pretends nothing is happening, there's a lot of us in the US watching in horror, our thoughts are with Hong Kong right now.

If China put half as much energy into stamping out corruption as they do suppressing people who are angry about the course of things, they'd have a country where people were probably much happier with the government.

that makes no sense " we used tear gas because people were dressed to it wouldn't be effective" or "we used it because it wouldn't work" is that essentially what he was saying? On what planet does this make sense?
